CGC Motorcycles Custom Luggage Rack Review for my CB750
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Charles, Great video, I was very pleased to watch a review from "just another guy on a bike" rather than the usual "here is my 100th motorbike review for the month" kind of person. I think that you present probably 90% of GS riders, ie : pavement princesses, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I will be purchasing a GS this year for exactly the same reasons as you. A big comfortable , torquey bike that has great handling and can be used for long trips as well as the daily stuff. Keep it up, loved the vid.
Pretty sure the clutch res. is filled with a mineral oil so be careful with any refills there
Good review, you know your bike well. FYI I have a NAV VI and I have to keep mine on a charger every night after riding and it works much better 95% of the time but for the price you are correct they are crap.
If you ever feel like a little challenge I learned how to check my valve clearances. It will save you lots. I also appreciate BMW now checking and replacing our drive shaft no charge. They replaced mine when it failed at 30,000 miles on my RT. I had no idea it was bad but they checked it and it failed. Lol!
Hello from Belgium, on the video at min 18. I have got the same problem on mine (sometime screen jump for menu) Replaced 3 times by BMW, always the same problem until I was told that the cause is inflitration between the screen and the frame. Fixed by a gps specialist (not BMW) fixing a special silicone between the frame and the screen, since no problem. GS1250 friendships. JM
Thank you for your tips on packing gear on a big trip. Just bought a Gsa today. Looking into luggage options as we speak. Do the lone rider crashbar bags scratch up your paintjob on the crashbars and/or fairings? Kind regards
Great review! I have a 2019 1250GS and love it. Regarding Shift Assist Pro, it seems different owners have different experiences with the “quick shifter.” Mine is also clunky from 1-2, and 2-3, but nice 3-4,4-5,5-6. However, downshifting is smooth as butter for all gears…
I have a 2024 identical bike. Totally agree on the sixth gear ratio. It doesn't need to be as low. It would be so nice to have it lose 500-750 rpms in sixth. I think it would still be able to pass without downshifting 80% of the time. I don't intend to get the BMW GPS for the same reason.
Excellent review, I am about to buy the same bike, and your review really helped to make that final decision) 2024 is the last production year for the classic looking gsa. In my opinion, 2025 looks nowhere near as good.
Absolutely a beautiful machine. Congratulations. Be safe out there.
Fun trip! My Brother works in Fermont. at some point I'll take my GS up there! All the way from Syracuse NY! MY bike is identical to yours! Can't wait to see the gaspesie video. That's where I grew up.
Your ongoing updates on your bodily functions do nothing to enhance the production.
Please stop saying filler words like UGH & ughmmm
Great video
Great looking machine!!
@@OBSESSED1954 I hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Thanks for watching!
Great vid...appreciate the view into your packing and explanation of why.
Another great video. Very picturesque…pity that seems (“lot of old people”) the younger generation move away, presumably for better work opportunities I had some Pit Caribou “13” beer at their bar in Montreal last year, and then bought more another day at the local Dep. Perfection. Pity they don’t ship to Australia
I live in Saguenay(200 km in the north of the city of Québec) and that s because, there is nothing to do in québec. every places are far away.
@@PlayThroughTheGameI understand Sanguenay is a fairly big and presumably busy town, and we found Montreal very vibrant when visiting last year, but that south-bank area Charles rode through isn’t. We have similar issues in farming / rural area here in Australia… some youngsters stay to farm but many head to the coast / cities. It’s understandable, but pity that such picturesque / quality of life areas can’t retain many of their youngsters
@@Kenny1977-b1j rural town is not popular. it should be for retired peoples, not for rising families. there is no opportunities to get a good job and there is nothing to do when you don t have a car.
You have 2 choices for GPS. You can use the connected ride phone craddle or the Chigee Carplay/android system.
Great. Inspired to do such a ride
Great vid and commentary…looks very green (for me in Australia)
Thanks for watching! Glad you're enjoying it.
@@CharlesEtienneAuger Last year I visited montreal (as part of a wider trip to Canada from australia, my daughter lived in BC and now AB) and loved it, but didn’t leave the island, didn’t get any further out. For Another day Out of interest as to your background, and from “sort of” understanding the language issue in QC (and as, during my visit, seemed that quebecois speaking English …to help me out with my schoolboy French…would in a notable accent and, generally, was clear it wasn’t “natural” to them) would you describe yourself as a French speaker who also speaks great English, or a native English speaker (in Quebec?!) who’s decent at French?
@@Kenny1977-b1j I'm actually French-Canadian and I spoke French exclusively, growing up. I learned English while living in another province for a few years as a child. I can tell you that all Québecois people really want from English speakers is an effort. Bonjour, s'il vous plait, merci. (Hi, please and thank you). The same level of effort you would show while visiting, say, Italy. The fact that, presumably, you speak with an Australian accent would help you because you clearly won't be seen as an English-Canadian who's not willing to make an effort. I would try to learn the phonetic way of saying that you're from Australia and to ask who you're speaking with if they speak English. ''Bonjour, je suis australien. Parlez-vous anglais?''. You'll get an nice smile in return and the reciprocal effort to converse and serve you in English. Most hotels and restaurants won't hire unilingual staff anyway so honestly, I wouldn't be too concerned. By your question, I can tell that you're sensitive to the topic and that's a great first step, as opposed to being rude about it and thinking less of Québecois for wrongly presuming they live in a Parisian bubble, refusing to learn or speak English because it's very far from the truth. I hope you visit us again and have a great time!
@@CharlesEtienneAuger thank you. Your few years out of province is probably the key to my earlier curiosity? I remembered enough school-era French to get by last year in montreal, opened every conversation with a decent (though grammatically weak) effort… school was a long time ago, and montrealers seemed good at filling the gaps! . I’d read ahead of our trip not to consider Quebecois as “France French” anyway, including as the locals aren’t always keen on those Europeans yourselves, and (as I found looking and listening in) there are differences in words, accent and approach to life - “North Americans who speak French” is more accurate? I appreciated the Quebec struggle for retaining language, history and identity (before arrival I read a lot about the history, of the Seigneur era, through to the quiet revolution…). Arguably, are similarities to the struggle of welsh speakers / identity in Wales, the Basque…. Yep, one day we’ll be back, riding a m/bike around eastern townships, the north shore, maybe Gaspe (home of Gaspesienne 13… great beer! …
@@Kenny1977-b1j I feel fortunate that our family moved for a few years. I learned English easily and kept it just as easily. Good on you to read up on our history! Fair dinkum ;) Indeed, French people from Europe have a vastly different way of speaking and will often actually borrow more English words than we do. (Parking, Shopping, Weekend..ect) One funny little trivial piece of information is that their version of the TV show 'The Voice' (I don't know if you have that down under) is actually called 'The Voice' and they pronounce is as such. Our version is called 'La Voix'. Odd, isn't it? Otherwise, we are different in our personality traights as well. French-Canadians is quite accurate. We share more with English-Canadians than we do Americans, that's for sure. Your comparison with Wales, the Basque (I'd add the Catalans to that) is spot on! I'm in my late 30's and consume most of my media in English and so do a lot of people my age. It's going to be important for those who follow us and also people emigrating to this part of the world to keep the language the official language of the area, by law. It won't die because, well, there is always France... but used daily? I hope we keep up the effort. That said, it's also very important for native French speakers here to learn and use English regularly because if we're really honest with ourselves, it's the language of business pretty much all over the globe and must be mastered. Full bilingualism would be my objective, should I come to power ;)
Great series, cheers from Texas.
Cheers, thanks for watching!
I loved that bike I bought one back in 84 when I was 23, road all over the place. Best bike ever.
i have an 84 magna 700.i would love to add one of these to the garage too.
Is this AI? Do you live in a painting?
Canada in the autumn is wonderful! Glad you enjoyed the visual. Thanks for watching!
so.. why not polarized lenses???
Thanks for the question! I've done some reading on this and have experimented a little bit because I do drive my car with polarised lenses. I find that polarised lenses, because they eliminate glare, make it more difficult to me to identify changes in road texture or the presence or moisture on the road surface. Road paint and some road repair materials can become extremely slippery when wet and I want to be able to see that. For example, most high-end cycling glasses are non-polarised. I apply the same logic on the motorcycle. Also, they can affect the way I can see LCD screens like my GPS. The TFT Display on the BMW isn't a problem, though. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!
Good review, adjusting the preload of the rear shock is a must for us bigger riders. Factory fly screen works pretty well, your head is still gonna get air but it does remove quite a bit of the wind off your chest. Without fly screen you really need to hang on at 70-80 mph but with fly screen 70-100 mph you dont have to grip as hard.
On a trip up to Oregon along the coast, I needed to stop for gas/food in Northern California before the Oregon border, one town rode through I didn't even bother to stop just too many sketchy characters walking around. Did end up stopping up the road a bit at a McDonalds with a Chevron gas station next to it. Took my tank bag and GPS inside with me. Ordered my food and used the restroom and wolfed down my food as fast as I could. A few characters hanging around with their shopping carts along with many signs telling you not to leave valuables in your vehicle. Couldn't eat and fill up fast enough.
80$ I am skint .... have the hikenature and sea to summit bad .... So today I saw a "toddlers" pillow from ALDI 3,49£ 300g I will try this I am just fed up ....
Very stunning scenery along the lake at your camping spot.
Grandparents (who passed when I was a little kid) were from the Calgary area. I've been to Vancouver briefly for business. So looking forward to seeing your video series and the beautiful scenery Canada has to offer . And maybe some day hopefully take a road trip into Canada visit a Tim Horton's. 😂
@@staudio Thank you so much for watching! I'm releasing new series currently! Cheers.
@@CharlesEtienneAuger Look forward to it.
You are not the only one with insufficient hardware from Puig.
Really enjoying eastern Quebec...looks very beautiful...I think I would like to ride my RT sightseeing this area. When you stop for lunch or supper, try and show some of the restaurants & meals if possible. Looking forward to part two...thanks for taking the time to make these video's.
Catching up on some comments here. For this series, I sadly have not recorded any of my food ;) I'll make an effort next time. Cheers!
I have got BMW connected ride navigator works fantastic so easy to put destinations into nav , and also excepts land marks or tourist attractions, this nav has never let me down yet
Thanks for the comment! I was aware they released a new one. I think TomTom makes the new version. I'll consider it! Cheers!
I’ve had the 4, 5 and 6 versions. This is my 3rd Navigator 6, in Geneva they really hesitate to change your Navigator 6 when it’s ghosting. This one is working for the moment and I’ve decided to get rid of it. I ordered a Chigee AIO-5 which fits in the BMW cradle and has Android/Apple car play included. Looking forward to testing it out with my new GSA1250 that I’ll be getting at the end of the month. Traded in my GSA1250 from 2019.
I get you friend, I have gone through 4 or5 of these damned things so far. I now have the new version which, so far so good. I'm still disgusted with BMW for selling this junk at a premium price. No more BMW branded electronics for me..
I'm going to give their new unit, launched recently, a look again in about a year, basing my opinion on reviews and such, and see about trying that out. It clips into the existing setup so at least there's that.
Holy smokes! 10 months, welcome back!
Thanks! haha it's been too long. Winter in Canada is a pain in the neck haha. Also, life but I got a good series on the way and more to come. Cheers!
@@CharlesEtienneAugerTell me about it, I’m in SE Ontario. I did however, pick up a 2024 BMW R1250GSA in May.
@@ModernistPC Congrats!
Enjoy the videos. I have an HD Ultra Limited and thinking about a GS. How do find the bike on the highway? Is the wind protection and road noise not too bad. Spoiled with the protection on a cruiser.
Hi, thanks for watching! I posted a video on my windshield install and first long ride with it, you might enjoy it. Truth is that the wind protection on the GSA is excellent. Because of the big tank and once you find your windshield setting, it's very comfortable on the highway. I do wear earbuds for long stints. The 'regular' GS might not be as good because of the smaller tank. Truth is the real trade off, compared to a cruiser, is the adaptability in mounting different luggage and you're just not getting the same sporty ride in the corners with a cruiser. Try and demo a GSA and find out for yourself! A lot of dealers are going to want to unload the 1250's now that the 1300's are out!
Superb video..... I'm gonna order one from Alamo BMW this Tuesday.
Good owner review. Your bigger windscreen is nice. GS's seat/pegs/bar arrangement is very nice. Easy to stand up on while riding. RT has some nice features, like motorized windscreen; quite useful to adjust for low/high speeds or rain. I bought an 06 RT in 2023 and I find it vibrates. Extra foam on the grips helps. Not sure how to improve the pegs, maybe better boots would help.
Thanks for watching! I just lifted the winscreen to the top position, added the lip spoiler and left it there. No need for an electric windscreen for me. Ride safe!
That fire view was crazy dope. Be safe & great vids..
By 2000 rpm you have most of your hp on tap all the way to redline 💪
Awesome review thank you, I have the standard Triple Black 1250 and love this bike.
Hi. Nice ride. I'm choosing a new bike for me, and for now thinking about gs1300.
Shaft drive and the hydraulic clutch were a great selling point for low maintenance bikes. My first bike was a 84 650.
Good review i do like the 1250 gs my current bikes are 2 Harley Cvo’s but I’m thinking of switching over to a BMW so thanks for the overview of your experience. Your roads are pretty much as crappy as the ones down here in Australia but the answer to that is good suspension and it sounds like your bike is pretty well set up . Happy days
Great video, I'm looking for my first bike and this is one of the options that I'm considering. Good stuff!
If you find one, just buy it. Thanks for watching!
This guy is a Primadonna, don’t pay attention to him
Thanks for watching, Bill!
What a great review, thanks for posting it, and nice Expos cap! I am considering this machine as my "final" bike. What a beauty. Cheers from Ontario, Ronny
Nice video...btw-I like your Expos hat!
